Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Department provides an intensive education in the studio arts: drawing, 2D design, 3D design, painting, printmaking, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry, graphic design, electronic media, and sequential art/illustration. Special Advanced Placement (AP Studio Art, AP Drawing, AP Art History) art courses enhance the curriculum and prepare students for college, design schools, and future career options. Graduating seniors regularly receive scholarships to outstanding universities and art institutes.

Showcasing student art in the Hudson Foundation Gallery is an opportunity not unlike that of the professional art world. Seniors are required to present a qualifying exhibition complete with preparation, installation, formal openings and critique by faculty. These exhibits are up for one month in the fall semester.

Spring shows are competitive exhibitions featuring works from each studio area. Additionally, students have been invited to exhibit work at the Dallas Museum of Art, The Crow Collection of Asian Art, Mary Tomas Gallery, and Norwood Flynn Gallery. Students are active members of the art community and have partnered with organizations such as The Dallas Arboretum, Latino Cultural Center, Trinity Strand Trail, Turtle Creek Chorale, and Hexter Elementary.
