Mathematics courses offered at BTWHSPVA sequence in order:

Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and Pre-Calculus.

Pre-AP and AP Mathematics courses offered at BTWHSPVA sequence in order:

Pre-AP Geometry, Pre-AP Algebra II, Pre-AP Pre-Calculus (Dual-Credit), AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC.

 

Pre-AP math courses are designed to prepare students to take future Dual-Credit college courses and AP Calculus courses. Students in these advanced courses are introduced to the type of work and expectations they will encounter in those advanced classes.


Students moving into BTWHSPVA may qualify for the Pre-AP mathematics program with a transcript showing successful participation in accelerated mathematics courses from their previous school or by showing mastery on the BTWHSPVA placement Test.

Any student who requests to be placed in a Pre-AP Math course can qualify if:

  • Parents are supporting the request.
  • Student will enter the class on a probation status as long as the student maintains a passing grade.
  • Student is willing to work hard, complete all assignments on time, and is a conscientious student.
  • Student is ready to commit to a course sequence leading to AP Calculus.

Dual Credit:

  • Students receive both high school and college credit for the course(s) they take through El Centro College.
  • Students must have appropriate El Centro College assessment; THEA or ACT/SAT scores as determined by the El Centro College Admissions/Registrar's Office.
  • Students must have approval from BTWHSPVA.
  • Students must have parent/guardian approval.
